Panopticon is one of the projects I made in two and a half months with six other students of the first year of Master at CNAM-ENJMIN, France (the other is Raise the Banner).

By giving the power of mass surveillance to the player in a VR experience, Panopticon intends to make the player understand the problematic surrounding new technologies. By manipulating a city map, the player can select suspect messages sent by citizens and decides if it’s really suspect based on the sender profile.

This project was developed with Unreal Engine 4.11. It’s an experience you play with an Oculus Rift plus a Leap Motion.

This project was mostly made with pair programming and we did:

  • Gesture detection (translation of the city map, zoom, rotation)
  • Shaders (Feedbacks and visual effects)
  • Gameplay programming
  • Touch selection (with Leap Motion)

You can watch the trailer below and you can also download the project and play it, but you will need an Oculus Rift DK2/CV1 and a Leap Motion Controller (There is a setup guide in the page).
